The  city is so far below sea level that, to avoid flooding problems, the graveyards had to be built with mini-mausoleumsâall above ground. No one in Lafayette Cemetery gets âburiedââunsettling, isnât it? Photographer unknown. (RivertoRiver1818/tumblr)
Thanks! I appreciate the cool ideas of things to see and do there. There are days when I wish that I lived somewhere like New Orleans. I am a big fan of blues, jazz, and zydeco music. Obviously Anne Rice has found it a good place to write. The energy where I live is pretty dead in the wrong way. Just people sort of hanging about and waiting to die.

Great picture! An editor and friend of mine sent me a lovely picture postcard of this place. It was taken in much better times, but still haunting and strangely beautiful.

Thanks. Ya I was there in the late 90s and it was different. The place took quite a beating. Itâs a great city! Cheers!

I’ve never been there yet, but the strength of the people to keep rising up and its rich history makes it a place I’d love to visit!

Well I hope you can get there soon. Try the Camillia Grill. Ride the old wooden Street Trolley. Def go to the French Quarter and try the beignets at Cafe du Monde! And if I recall author Anne Rice has a gorgeous old home in the Garden District close to the cemetery…of course, right? đ
