Dr. Mary Walker was an amazing woman of the 1800’s. Walker was a learned physician at a time when most medical schools did not allow women—when even nursing was not considered a fit occupation to be held by a lady. AND she wore trousers!!!! She must have gotten her style of dress from the Vivandieres of Europe and The Vivandieres of the American Civil War who wore trousers. ca. 1800s. (Pinterest)
